Division 4: Bailieboro Celtic 2 Kells Celtic 1

5 Sep 2021 by Alan Tormey

Kells travelled to bailieboro with almost full strength team. With 3 changes from last week’s impressive win.

In comes Johnny lynch in goals. Ciaran Keating on the left and paddy Murray up front replacing James Kavanagh, Luke Demange and Daniel Farrelly The pitch just passed a pitch inspection by the ref as the grass wasn’t cut and was at least 60mm long.

The pitch definitely didn’t suit the away team who like to pass the ball on the ground and this proved costly as a pass by Ciaran to left back Liam day slowed in the grass and was cut out by home team and a ball over the top was buried by the home striker.

Bailieboro continued to play long balls which the Kells back 4 were able to deal with, without much problem. Kells continued to play out from the back and working up the wings creating chances for front man Chris Darga and Alex Williams. On 30 minutes and from a free out Alex flicked on for odhran farrelly to run onto and bear the former Cavan keeper to level the game at 1-1. Kells were well on top but try as they might they couldn’t score a second
HT score 1-1

The second half started with no changes but soon into the half kells lost the excellent Keating to an unfortunate injury and he was replaced by the hard working Zak Griffin Bailieboro introduced a couple of experienced players and this proved the big move as they both combined for their no14 to fire past Johnny to take the lead. From this bailieboro were determined to hold onto their lead and some heavy tackles seen their no2 receive a straight red card for a bad foul on Chris.

Another foul on Zak seen the free kick swung in and up went David Shipp to see his header come back of the inside of the post. Kells brought on Paul Mc Guinness Fize Ferenze and Calvin Doherty and switched to 3 at the back pushing everyone forward but could not force an equalizer. Final whistle sounded and a 2-1 defeat for kells.
