Kells Celtic made the trip to the MDL Grounds in Navan sitting in mid-table face up against the Division 2 leaders Johnstown,

After the first half it was hard to believe who was the league leaders with Kells Celtic going in 3-0 ahead at half-time. The visitors got off to the perfect start as they went 1-0 up with an excellent strike from Aaron Rooney, Rooney saw a ball laid off to him at the edge of the box and with his weaker left foot, connected perfectly to fire to the top corner to give Kells the lead.

1-0 soon became 2-0 on 10 minutes when Daniel Murphy gambled on a loose ball from a corner and tapped into the back of the net. With 35 minutes played, Kells Celtic striker Cian O’Brien got in behind the Johnstown defence and got taken down for a penalty kick, up stepped Bradley Caffrey to make it 3-0.

In the second half it was Johnstown who came with the goals and two goals in quick succession brought the Navan side back into the game, the second being controversial with a Kells Celtic player appearing to be fouled in the build up.

Gary McGovern in the Kells Celtic goal produced a fine save to keep the Celts ahead but Johnstown did get the equaliser. Kells Celtic had some great chances to nick the result with two goals ruled out for offside.

With the game heading for the final whistle, midfielder Kyle Dardis looked to have won it with a shot from distance but the Johnstown keeper parried it away, the ball fell kindly to Chris Darga but once again the Johnstown keeper saved the home side and gave thema share of the spoils.
