17 Nov 2021 by Alan Tormey

Kells hosted Wexford League leaders Gorey Rangers in the swcond round of the
LFA cup.

Great afternoon for football and both teams started well but from the start
the away side looked very good on the ball moving forward with ease. After 15 minutes a shot from distance seen Johnny lynch save well but the
Gorey striker was on it in a flash to fire to the net.

Kells grew in the game and were good at times great work by Adam Donnelly
and a brilliant pass found Danny mc Govern and a perfect touch put him
clear only for a superb save from the keeper.

Kells were well on top with Sean Curran, Dean Connell and Frank O’Reilly
excellent in midfield. Ryan Farnham forced a corner and it was swung in by Carl Jordan only for Frank to head wide.

The back 4 of Carl Jordan, Craig Mooney, Thomas Smith and Paul Flood were well on
top and dealt with anything the away side had.

HT 0-1

Kells wanted a quick start in the second half but found themselves 2 down
when a mix up in defence let Gorey in for second goal. Frank and Sean combined to put Danny through on goal but his shot just went wide.

Kells changed formation bringing on Daniel Farrelly for the injured Carl.
And Bradley Cafrey for Dean. Kells now had 2 upfront and looked liked causing problems but after 30 minutes lost Adam to a second yellow card. Tougher now with 10 men and Gorey played keep ball knocking it from side to side and when the got in on the left a tackle in the box resulted in a penalty which was put in the corner with ease.

Zak Griffin replaced Ryan and Harry Lee replaced Danny for the final few
minutes as the away team remains unbeaten.
