Division 3B: Torro Utd 0 Kells Celtic 4

26 Apr 2022 by Alan Tormey

Kells travelled to near neighbours Torro looking to build on a positive point away to Duleek in the last game and were able to welcome back some returning players as well as blooding some new signings.

It was Kells who hit the ground running moving the ball quickly and opening up the Torro defence and Zak Griffin found space in the box to finish with just 5 minutes gone. Kells did all the pressing with wide men Ryan Halpin and Daniel Phipps causing all sorts of problems and Aaron Rooney and Kelvin Blair running riot on the overlaps.

Kells got their 2nd when a great header from Daniel Phipps to a knick off a defender to find the back of the net.

Half-time 0-2

Kells started the 2nd half in the same manner and created chance after chance but were met with stern goalkeeping. A triple change saw Adam Donnelly, Dean Connell and Ajay Tormey come in and it was Donnelly who broke the 2nd half deadlock when he raced onto a through ball and slotted past the keeper from wide on the left. Further changes saw Alex Flood Norton and Paul McGuiness enter the field and Alex was involved in good play on the edge of the box which saw Dean (Rio) Connell tuck the ball home to cap a dominant performance.

Loads of positives for Kells management to work on as the 2nd string seek back to back promotions.
