Division 1: Albion Rovers 1 Kells Celtic 1

21 May 2022 by Alan Tormey

Kells Celtic travelled to Albion missing a number of 1st team regulars but still had a fantastically strong squad at their disposal and will feel that their endeavours should have gleaned all 3 points instead of the 1 they were forced to settle for.

With key players unavailable, the management changed fro. The usual 3-5-2 to a more orthodox 4-5-1 but the tempo and possession game was still the same with Kells dominating the ball on a glorious pitch and causing problems a plenty for the Albion defence with Kuba Bidzinski in particular carving the left channel open at will. Kells spurned 5 decent opportunities and were somehow denied a stonewall penalty when the Albion keeper spilled the ball over his head only for it to strike the upright arm of the defender and go out with the referee deeming it not a penalty!

Half-time 0-0

Kells started the 2nd half in the same vein probing and pushing for openings only to fail to trouble the keeper at the vital moments and were caught by a sucker punch when a long punted clearance was missed by the defence and the Albion striker stroked home from close range.

Kells changed shape and went for the win and got their just rewards when a long throw from substitute Conor Kirwan caused mayhem in the 6-yard box and the ball was hammered home by Kuba Bidzinski.

Kells pushed and pushed for a winner but Albion managed to hold on for a point.

A week is a long time in football and will allow for a few more bodied to return before the next challenge.
